While Taiwan was considered the best place, the Maltese archipelago is considered as the best country when it comes to live. In Malta, 70% of expats are in a relationship, 64% are delighted with their partner, and 44% live here with a partner from a third country - double the global average.

The respondents rated 43 aspects of life abroad on a scale of one to seven, with queries ranging from friendliness of locals, to provision of services.

Malta ranked well in all quality of life subcategories, achieving top position for leisure options, and second only to Costa Rica when respondents were asked to rate their personal happiness.

Malta equally ranked very well when assessing how easy it was to settle down and make new acquaintances.

Almost half of all Malta-based foreigners who participated in the survey said they are planning on staying in Malta forever – a much higher rate than the 31% global average.

Malta's second-place represents an improvement from 2015’s result, when it reached the third place.
